PlantAmnesty, established in 1987, is a 1000-member mock-militant nonprofit organization whose mission is to provide education, resources, and advocacy to prevent mal-pruning and preserve urban greenspace.
We have a sense of humor and a mission. We specialize in using the media to alert the public to crimes against nature being committed in their own back yards, specifically tree topping and the nuisance shearing of shrubs. Once we have the public's attention, we supply all the solutions: a referral service of skilled gardeners and arborists, classes and workshops, and RUclips videos and how-to literature on selective pruning in English and in Spanish. And we host volunteer pruning events for needy and deserving trees and gardens, including the Arbor Day Tree Prune and Volunteer Yard Renovations.

Celebrating Kay Bullitt
Просмотров 436Год назад
This video pays tribute to Kay Bullitt who died in August 2021. Kay’s life of extraordinary graciousness and generosity is well-documented in the video which was played at a celebration in her honor on July 20, 2022. PlantAmnesty has developed a special connection to Kay because shortly after our founder Cass Turnbull died in January 2017, Kay generously invited PlantAmnesty to create a garden ...

How to Prune a Pierus Tree - Video Tutorials with Plant Amnesty
I love my rhodos but they are invading my new neighbor's back yard. She started hacking them back "on her side" right before they bloomed. That is her right but she never even had the decency to talk first. Ugh. I need to cut it way back!
Looks like Thuja plicata, Western Red Cedar. Beautiful tree
what kind of pruning shears do you recommend?
Is there any particular place on the wood to cut at? My plant is short and wide, but I want it to be tall and narrow. Can I cut very close to the soil, and expect the remaining few inches of wood to grow green leaves? Or do I need to cut a particular spot, or reserve a minimum length of wood?
This is such a helpful video series. I've absolutely fallen in love with arbory.
Well relieved to see a hard prune on the Mexican mock orange. Just did that today cuz we have this wonderful rainy spell here and it's done all it's blooming. it was definitely getting too big for its space. So I figure it has a chance to recover in the milder temperature before the fall cold.
Great video. Thank you
Very few ppl care about properly caring for trees. This is great information
So I shouldn’t sheer them with hedge trimmers?

Could you please enable the SAVE feature on this video, so I can save it to my pruning library. Thanks!
how do I kill the grass inside it without killing the bush
The best presentation of pruning. I wish I could send a picture to you of my new Cascalote tree to have you direct on how this should be pruned/ trained to be healthiest.
She didn't talk of Root Pruning which can save trees from over zealous pruners, especially if the Tree Flowers as in a Magnolia...
I didn't know George Washington died of blood letting!
Exactly what I’ve been doing with mine here in Georgia for the last 25 years. It started out as a spindly cast off garden center reject and has grown into my favorite tree.😄
God help you if you leave knubs after pruning
Great videos.. veri informative 👌
I think if you don't mess with trees at all and just let them grow as intended then tree existance is in harmony...Man is the danger in all aspects of controllled life.
Could I ask your advise on a conifer tree that is producing pine cones and the tree itself seems to be growing quite big. I would like to know how to cut the tree back without killing it.
What a wealth of information she provided. RIP
Thank you! Informative and well done!
I like your style
Thank you. Your information are gold 😊
Yes. The hardest part is waiting 😂 yesterday i cut one and today im regrets it 😔
Thank you
Fantastic series. Thank you!
I would say its a bit turning the topic upside down. I mean it is not a batd thing to shape your trees, the worse is if you do not do it every next time when it is needed to do. When you tidy up your hedges and trees frequently nothing from showed here will happen as growing three heads form one that you cut last year or doglegs or any conifer top hats. I mean come on. I was looking here for the correct pruning lesson not that what it looks like when you forget to take care of the trees.
I have two giant Walnuts that was done to...the tree trimmer explained...is there any way to repair the damage or look?
Pretty useless
Wow. Not what I was expecting but totally great information. I was getting f ready to just cut all mine in half. Now I know better. Thanks so much❤❤❤❤❤
Hilarious! Yes, a great tutorial. Loved how you cut the stems at the base and then showed optional pruning spots further up. But your commentary, was spot on what gardeners are thinking as they prune. Don’t prune too much. You can always make it look worse . Get out, get out, get out. So true. I’m still laughing 😂
Nice okatsune pruner
Why do the RUclipsrs think it’s necessary to give a lengthy introduction…it’s not necessary and it’s repetitive. Losing audience with in first minute and a half. Just get into the content!
Thank you so much for this information, delivered in an eloquent and accessible manner.
Do you recommend any current books on pruning/trimming?
MAN I am so glad I found these presentations. Learninghere at 10x the rate of other videos that are tree-specific or more geared towards showing actually cutting instead of sharing foundational in formation of the skill set, which is what you really need to learn a skill.
THANK YOU!!!! So many videos on youtube about pruning are about a specific tree & not about how to learn the skill itself! Thank you!!!!
Instant subscription! You are exactly what I wanted to find. Thank you!
same - old youtube was just better haha
2:36 😂😂😂
what is a water sprout??
Water sprouts are shoots on the trunk or old branches. They arise from latent buds, some aren't visible being under the bark called epicormic buds.
8:19 TREE TRUNK and Branch wood.
The simple principle I gathered is what cut ends a shoot and the cuts that propagate.
So if you're not going to clip it isn't going to live up to its name of Box honeysuckle is it.
Lol. Love your commentary.
Love this! Since moving to Portland I have seen so much incredible tree topping, I never knew this existed! I’m here trying to learn the right way.
As the sudden new owner of a tree removal and trimming service, your channel has already brought me such a great wealth of knowledge. You've pointed me in the direction of some great resources and as such, I am on my way to becoming ISA certified. Thank you so much for creating your channel.
I was watching these videos and thinking that she's clear in her presentation. She mentioned she has a book (Cass Turnbull's guide to pruning) so I went to see about buying it online. It gets very good reviews, but one of the reviewers said that the author is dead. Very sad to hear this. RIP.
Thank you ! I learned so much from this video.
